Lesson 6 of 9

Investment and Connection when Starting Out

TASK ONE

Turn to page 17 of your workbook.

For the first task of this lesson I’d like you to write down different ways in which you might involve participants in the creation of ground rules. For example you might send out a questionnaire before the first session.  Example questions can be found in the workbook.

TASK TWO

How we connect

The aim of this task is to explore what behaviours or actions you feel are appropriate in peer support –  in a friendship – or never. Turn to page 18 in the workbooks and fill in the table. You can either tick the boxes OR you can make notes.

TASK THREE

Now turn to Turn to P19 of your workbook

For the final task of this lesson I’d like you to think about how you might use ICEBREAKER activities to help members get to know each other better and feel invested in the group.

At the back of the workbook you will find a number of suggested activities  –  I’d like to select ONE and make notes on when you could use this within your peer group session.

It might also be useful to anticipate some of the problems that could arise (particularly if running an online group) and note down your ideas for  how you might tackle these. Don’t worry if you’re not sure –  we will be working on this in lesson 8.

You have now reached the end of lesson 6 –  Congratulations. Feel free to take a break here or move straight onto lesson 7.
